Wtf Gamers: SNES Classic Problem
Disclaimer: I am not here to dictate on how you want to spend your money as a collector. I am just sharing my feelings with certain products. Take it how you will, I expect to be crucified anyway!
Let’s talk about the elephant in the room gamers, that’s right I want to go full glazed ham about the Super Nintendo Classic Mini which was revealed earlier. I had many gamers looking to me asking, “hey kuma are you getting the SNES Classic?” I said yes, but I plan to do some work on it so i can upload games to it. I mean honestly paying 80 bucks on a device that is limited to 20 games is not a deal at all. I can buy a superboy and have it modified to accept an SD slot for roms or hell I can get a Retron 5 with five video game slots that also plays famicom games with an SD slot as well for $150. Still you might be wondering, “So what?” This will be a short rant.
I care about my fellow gamers being consumers of nostalgic items and I just wonder why Nintendo would cheat themselves out of something that has potential to be profitable. If they added an option on it to use the Nintendo store to download classics then I would be more impressed. In a case you can argue that it would lose profit for their 3Ds or Nintendo Switch, but not really if you only keep it compatible for the SNES only. It is like with Sony and the PSP or PSvita compatible download games. The other problem is that even thought they did pick some decent titles this will not cater to a lot of fans of other titles. Here are some titles I would like to see there, but will not happen.
Quick list Edit
- Swat Cats
- Earthworm Jim
- Super bomberman
- Top gear
- TMNT: Turtles in Time
- Sunset Riders
- Final Fight 3
- Chrono Trigger
- Super Double Dragon
- Captain Commando
- Castlevania Dracula X
- Spider-man and Venom: Maximum Carnage
That is just to name a few as my own personal list. However, I don’t like doing these post without a proper solution. Get that freaking thing modified, find out who can do it for you and just add a USB slot like a raspberry pie device so you can enjoy more Roms on that game. It may cost you a bit more but it will be worth it. I know a lot of people don’t have the means like many of us gamers, I have gone above and beyond to enjoy my gaming and yes I had modified systems, but mostly so I can play games from different regions. It is frowned upon, but that’s how dedicated I am as a gamer.
Lastly look at what Sega did a few years back that you can get now for 27.99 which is the Sega Genesis Classic Console. This thing has built in games, comes with two wireless controllers and…AND you can use Sega Genesis cartridges on it! That is freaking mind blowing if you ask me. It was originally forty bucks when it was first released. I hear that Sega is coming out with their own mini, but why when you have this beautiful officially licensed system. I would suggest hoping on this one before they pull it off the site.
In that I am open to see what your thoughts are on the subject, I am welcome to hear your thoughts, feelings or concerns.
