Spring Gaming Indie Spotlight: Cyanide & Happiness – Freakpocalypse
We here have a saying, “New Season, New Games.” While triple-A games tend to eat up the spotlight, indie titles get major love in these parts. Some of our favorite games have been from indie developers. Especially games from the awesome folks over at Serenity Forge. Who as our luck would have it, dropped a new indie title today. A title that looks to be as entertaining as it is freaky. Publisher Serenity Forge and developers Explosm and Skeleton Crew Studios have unleashed Cyanide & Happiness – Freakpocalypse team and Nintendo Switch today.
Cyanide & Happiness Preview:
For a bit of background on Freakpocalypse, this title began on the Mecca of where indie game dreams go in hopes of being developed, Kickstarter. Back in 2017, Freakpocalypse’s campaign initially tried to raise $300,000. But thanks to 14,971 lovely backers, the campaign was able to raise over $570,000! For the last 3 years, the development team has been diligent to ensure that Freakpocalypse is the pinnacle of a point-and-click adventure game. Most notable is the fully voiced cast of characters, a plethora of clickable actions, and lots and lots of well-written, creative dialogue. And so here we are today, seeing an indie dream become a reality with the release of Freakpocalypse!
Freakpocalypse follows the story of Coop’s adolescent adventures through the 4 years of institutionalized hell known as high school. If you thought your high school years were a drag, well our boy Coop has entered the chat. You see our dear little Coop just wants to experience the average high school highlights without dying. Coop’s highschool journey includes such run-of-the-mill highlights including getting a hall pass, avoid being slain by bullies, and of course the coveted finding a prom date. While Coop sets off on his highschool misadventure’s players can enjoy interacting with a colorful cast of over 100 zany characters such as horrendously unprofessional high school faculty, disgruntled retirement home residence, Coop’s horny grandma, and everyone’s favorite Shark dad. Alongside the zany cast, players can collect equally bizarre costumes and secrets.
Freakpocalypse is on sale on both Steam and Nintendo Shop for 10% off, which means gamers can cop a new, highly anticipated indie title for $17.99! So if you gamers are looking for a little indie action to kick off your spring 2021 gaming season, give Cyanide & Happiness – Freakpocalypse a play!
