Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin Trial Preview

Good day to you gamers and monstie riders all. So, the Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin Trial is now available on the Nintendo Switch. Naturally, this beast has jumped right in to check it out before its July 9th release date. Just to let you all know that the trial’s save data will transfer to the full game. This is a great incentive for those interested in getting the game. So, without further delay, let’s jump right into this.

Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin demo

The story revolves around you the hero as you are the grandchild of Red. The legendary Monstie rider had a Rathalos named Ratha as a companion. Now that he is long passed away, it is up to you to help the islands find out what is going on with all the disappearing Rathalos. Good thing this journey will not be done solo as you will have a few friends to come along with you. Most from the Village of Mahana running into Kayna with her Monstie Velocidrome Avmar. As well as Navirou, a brave felyne bound for adventure.

This is where you find a lot more details when you run into a mysterious person who knew your grandfather. Her name is Ena, who at the end gives you a Rathalos egg to care for, but it seems you have an enemy on your tail. The interesting thing bout Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin is that not everyone agrees with having Monstie’s as companions. Some feel that they might be a danger and don’t have the same ideals as the village of Mahana.

It definitely feels like one of those stories of opening the eyes of those with fear. There will be 12 more characters that will be part of this journey either as friends or foes. Especially since we have to keep an eye out on Lilia who seems to be your biggest threat. But, we will save that story for the full release of the game.

MH Stories 2 Gameplay:

As I spoke with my fellow hunter brother Fressh_Princ3 since we both plan to tackle the co-op. Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin has a huge improvement from the first game. The monsties you ride are bigger than the previous title. As well as improvements in the graphics and combat. Capcom ported the 3Ds game to the mobile world and yea, definitely feels a lot better this time around.

Between using the kinship abilities to form a super attack with your monsties. Being able to switch between weapons in combat. The rock. paper and scissors style of fighting is still there. However, the animations are greatly improved. Seeing the QTE animations is fun (Quick Time Events). At times you will have to switch different areas of the body as a strategy on certain monsters. Severing limbs is always the key factor in any Monster Hunter game. In stories fighting a monstie like Pukei Pukei who has a poison attack from its tail.

Since this has the turn-based RPG style, Pukei’s poison attack hits everyone at once. So, when it is your turn switch the area to attack towards the tail and take it out immediately. This goes the same for an Anjanath fight as well. There are also cute animations from your monsties when in combat like Pukei again. When it does its poison rain attack it will use its tongue like an umbrella to protect you. That is freaking adorable, love it.

Monster Hunter Stories 2: WoR will feature a co-op mode as well as a vs. mode. From what I read there will be a side story co-op feature from the main story, which I can understand. And a vs. Mode, which I hope can be a 2 vs. 2 style combat, would make that interesting. Your save data from Monster Hunter Rise will unlock some things in Stories 2 and vice versa as well. I still find it weird to have collaboration within the two games of the same nature. But, that is just my own feeling, hopefully, will we see collabs from other games like before.

I still have hopes for a Ronin Warriors collaboration, just saying Capcom.

Final Thoughts:

Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin is already pre-order and ready to be loaded on my Switch. The good news is that the PC version will be out the same day. However, even though I would not mind the PC version, Monster Hunter Rise is not out on PC yet until next year. So, it would make no sense to buy it on there especially since my saved data can’t talk to the PC version. With that being said, yes I am all in for Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin and you can check it out for yourself right now before the release. Also, check out my video showcasing some of the combat and the story. You can pre-order your copy by going to this link right here. – Beast Out
