Kikee’s News Update for Tokyo Game Show 2021
What it do gamers! I know, I know, it’s been a while, I digress, life is hard. Luckily for me and gamers alike, there are plenty of titles dropping in 2021 that will take our minds off those low-tier life experiences! As always, we here at Beast Gamer Kuma are always game to show the indie devs some love and give you guys the deeds one whatever’s going down in the indie realm. The folks over at Serenity Forge have been very busy this 2021. Following their release of the highly anticipated Cyanide & Happiness: Freakpocalypes, comes an even more bizarre, critically acclaimed title, the psychological horror school romance thriller, Doki Doki Literature Club Plus!
Tokyo Game Show news:
So you might be thinking to yourself how “psychological horror” and “school romance” could even mesh together. DDLC (Doki Doki Literature Club Plus) is a bit different than your average visual novel titles. DDLC tells the tale of a high school literature club that goes array. As players attempt to romance their crush through literary works, they find out just how dark the literature club gets. If you thought the pinnacle of a writer’s plight was grappling with plagiarism or a severe case of writer’s block, DDLC will make you think again. As the morbid events of DDLC unfold, players are pulled into a gripping story that comes with a few perks.
These perks I’m here to dish about are a little extra depending on which version players buy. DDLC hits Steam, PSN, and Nintendo Store on August 31st, being available for PC, PS4/PS5, and the Nintendo Switch. For my fellow console gamers, the Physical PS4/5 and Switch versions come with an exclusive poem notebook inner cover sheet, a DDLC membership card, a fill soundtrack download code printed on a floppy disk-shaped card, a vinyl 17 sticker sheet, and an exclusive special poem written by Monika.
Fear not my PC folk, for while you may not be able to get your hands on them physical perks, DDLC is packed full of extra content for players on all platforms to enjoy. These extras include:
- 6 New Friendship and Literature Focused Side Stories
- 100+ Unlockable images which include:
- Never Before Seen Concept Sketches
- New Game Art
- New Wallpapers
- 26 Music Tracks and 13 New Unlockable Tracks
- A Built-In Music Players
- High Fidelity Visual Upgrades (Full HD1080p)
A special tidbit about the music tracks and the built-in player is that tracklisting features songs by Nikki Kaelar, and special guests Jason Hayes and Azuria Sky. The built-in player also gives players the option to create custom playlists. So even if you don’t get the console versions, DDLC still has plenty to offer.
Serenity Forge keeps the morbid themes going with this next title Death Gambit: Afterlife arrival to Nintendo Switch! DGA is a 2D action Metroidvania which expands and refines the experience of the original. Play through the story of Sorun the Agent of Death in his journey through Siradon; discovering an array of equipment and abilities whilst exploring vast environments. Of course, players will do all this while fighting through an onslaught of different enemies.
As stated previously, Afterlife has expanded, and will offer players a variety of new content which includes the following:
- A Complete Mechanical Revamp
- Fine Tuned Encounters, Improved Movement, and Expanded Crafting
- Over 30 Weapons With New Talents For Each
- 6 Additional New Bosses
- Expanded New World
- 10 New Additional Levels
- A New Map To Navigate Siradon
Alongside these extras are the original 14 bosses and 11 levels, making for hours of action-packed gameplay. The dev team over at White Rabbit has been working diligently to ensure that Afterlife utilizes most of the feedback provided by dedicated fans. Aside from bringing the title to additional platforms, Afterlife comes equipped with additional languages. So Switch players can rejoice and join the action-packed adventure of DGA when it hits the Nintendo Shop later this year.
My last bid of news comes from the land of the rising sun, glorious Nippon! Aka, Japan. While Japan’s borders take over 9000 years to reopen, Japan’s biggest gaming conference is heating up!. We here at Beast Gamer Kuma aren’t talking about games of the 2021 worldwide sporting event variety, rather this about Tokyo Game Show 2021! The main visual for TGS2021 has been released!
The creator of this magnificent burst of color is the highly talented artist Kukka (くっか), whose major works include everything from book cover illustrations to CD covers. Kukka creates illustrations that express its unique worldview through various themes, and there was no exception spared with TGS’s main visual. The theme of the piece is “We Always Have Games”, a mantra we here at Beast Gamer Kuma can get behind. Kukka offer some profound words on the background of the piece, one that is intertwined with the beauty and captivity of the TGS21 main graphic, stating:
We always have games around us, and they bring colors to our lives. I also personally think that games are indispensable in my life. I chose colors that would make people feel happy and cheerful and featured a wide range of motifs, from fashion to the latest game images as well as retro ones. I am honored to create the main visual for TGS for the second consecutive year. Thank you very much! – Kukka
As COVID19 effectively closed the world around us across the globe, for gamers, video games brought us hours of leisure, escape, and a healthy coping to deal with the uncertainty. So it is only natural that a graphic as cheerful, colorful, and profound be the official main visual for TGS2021.
