Fall News of Yakuza: Like A Dragon
Well folks it’s September 1st. Meaning Fall is here, ready to take 2020 with all its Pumpkin Spice glory. Despite 2020 kicking off with a rocky pandemic filled start, this year’s gaming line up seems to be the only highlight for this low tier year. Fall is looking to keep the gaming highs afloat with the highly anticipated release of the PS5 and new gaming titles of course! Like the PS5, many gamers are looking forward to the release of this title. A brand new spin-off of the well known Sega franchise Yakuza. That’s right! I’m here to give you deeds on Sega’s mega hype “Yakuza: Like a Dragon”!
A New Take on Yakuza
Hitting PS4/Xbox One and PC November 13, 2020 (mark those calendars yall!) is the highly anticipated release of the Yakuza spin-off “Like a Dragon.” Now I’ve known about this title for quite some time and got to see the press conference in person at Tokyo Game Show 2019. The crowd that quickly amassed in the center of the showroom (and the number of times my toes were stepped on)was an ode to how hype gamers in the east are for this title. Furthermore, thanks to the release of the Kiwami titles, the Yakuza series has gained massive popularity in the west.
With over 12 million copies sold worldwide since 2005, the Yakuza franchise has gained a massive following across the globe. What’s worth noting about the series is that in Japan, it grew in part mature content. The realistic portrayals of organized crime in Japan accompanied by an exploration of the themes of love, betrayal, and corruption give Yakuza a rare uniqueness unlike any others in gaming. Bringing these themes to life is a cast of highly talented seasoned, famous Japanese actors, giving more notoriety to the series.
But what fans and gamers across the globe are anticipating most about Like a Dragon is this the new style of combat. You see the development theme switches up on us seasoned Yakuza players and has switched from a beat em up style street brawl combat, to the old school, strategic RPG turn-based RPG format. But the elements that make the Yakuza serious what it is are thriving more than ever. Taking place in the streets of Yokohama, following our new protagonist, Ichiban Kasuga, and his colorful cast of party members Nanba, Saeko, and Adachi as they fight their way through various skirmishes.
Unlike previous versions where players switch fighting styles, like many RPGs, players in LAD can utilize over 20 jobs via an elaborate job system; as well as give enemies the smackdown using team attacks. All of which you can see in this lovely trailer and screenshots courtesy of Sega.
We here at Beast Gamer look forward to reviewing this titled for you devoted readers. So if you’re looking for something to play this Fall 2020 gaming season, keep your eyes peeled for more Yakuza: Like a Dragon news! My gaming senses tell me some pre-order goodies may be in the cards.
